The Civil Service Commission in CSC MC 10, s. 2018 enjoined government agencies on the promotion of ASEAN Awareness and Observance of ASEAN Month for the month of August. Agencies heads were encouraged to “expand their commemorative programs and activities for the month of August and to add more focus in their messaging on how ASEAN Integration and community-building has provided concrete benefits to the people.”
The Department of Education (DepEd), Commission on Higher Education (CHED), and the Technical Education and Skills Authority (TESDA) are encouraged to enjoin educational and training institutions to adopt similar activities, to raise awareness of ASEAN among the members of the faculty, students and stakeholders.
Also enjoined are Local Government Units to promote and cascade ASEAN Awareness down to the barangay level and to implement/provide support to ASEAN-related programs and activities in their community.
Head of Agencies were also reminded of their compliance with the CSC MC 6, s. 2016 issued on February 29, 2016 on the continuing information campaign on ASEAN.
In keeping with the promotion and awareness campaign, the agency may undertake the following activities: 1) flag raising activities for the month of August shall focus on ASEAN Awareness such as the singing of the ASEAN Anthem; 2) sharing information on ASEAN (e. g. updates on ASEAN-related activities, trivia, informative videos, etc.) during such flag-raising ceremony and other employee fora; and 3) wearing of ASEAN-inspired attire coinciding with the flag raising ceremony mentioned above. The program may also highlight ASEAN culture (e.g. food, dances, music, traditional sports, etc.).
